I just learned the hard way that heat is much more a problem than terrain. I parked my truck at a local truckstop and had to wait for my wife to come pick me up. I was hungry, so I walked across the street to eat at a diner. This was just a little before noon. After lunch I walked back to the truck and apparently took a nap. Next thing I know, my wife is pounding on the door. I grabbed my laundry bag and jumped out to walk to the car. This was almost 2 PM, and I could feel the difference in the asphalt and concrete. By the time I got to the car I swear I could see flames between my toes. I now have a couple large, painful blisters on my soles. Interestingly, my heels show no signs of injury. I'm convinced that spending most of the past week in boots softened my soles enough that the skin on the balls of my feet could not handle the heat. Heels tend to be thicker to begin with, so they faired better.
Guess I'll have to pick up some ointment and maybe even gauze bandages to dress the wounds so I can function the next few days.
